The artist’s job is to be a witness to his time in history.

Moments of unrest and violence slowly engulf Paul Cieniuch’s characters. Drawing inspiration from current events, he creates surreal scenes where a mist of paint and rage surrounds faceless masses.

 It is a simple record of my daily routine; I walk to work and see other people going to work or in this case working already. There is beauty in it.

I live in Toronto. My painting is influenced by the vibrant, diverse, sometimes cold and unforgiving, demanding, greedy, cultured and economically wise, colorful, busy city. In some cases it is a direct reaction to the overload of information that living in this city imposes - it usually results in abstract impressionist paintings.

I believe that "art" is a primitive language. 

I regret not having painted because of hesitation, fear of rejection, or lack of ideas. Art does not need a reason to be created.

Columns taken from the ancient temples are used for the enormous emperor's palace water reservoir.  Massive head sculptures are placed upside down as bases of the columns. The houses of gods were reduced to building materials when the religion changed.
In the end, all art is simply materials transformed by artists into something worth believing.

istanbul 1/9/14

In 2013 I went to Istambul mainly to see Hagia Sophia one of the most important structures ever built. My intention was to paint a few plain air paintings but the atmosphere of the city did not support that.
